Yamaha have listened to popular opinion and re-introduced the fun and practical sporty Zuma. Some key features include cleaner exhaust emissions with the new settings for carburetors, catalysers and fully automatic transmission.
Engine
The 49cc two stroke engine is air cooled with a reed-valve induction system for excellent throttle response and power. Seamless fuel delivery and good throttle response is ensured with the 14mm Teikei carburetor. The cooling system is fan assisted for maximum efficiency and maximum engine life. An exclusive oil injection system gives easy and mess free premixing of the oil and fuel. A dependable electric starter is backed up by a kick starter. The transmission is fully automatic and ensures easy operation by simply twisting the throttle. An automatic choke provides easy starting even on cold days and a high voltage spark gives excellent reliability and engine performance. The Zuma has a top speed of about 40mph.
Chassis & Suspension
The scooter has a long wheel base and is large enough to provide more room and enhanced comfort while riding and a step through frame allows easier mounting and dismounting. Good traction is achieved by the fat 120/90-10 and 130/90-10 front and rear tires. The ride is smooth due to the single rear shock when traveling in solo or with a passenger. Brakes are 155mm hydraulic at the front and drum brakes at the rear.
Other Features
The Zuma is designed to look sporty with racy bodywork and aggressive riding and profile positions. This sporty look is further enhanced by the wide front apron and the floorboards which also give good weather protection and comfort. Dual bulbs mounted above the fairing give excellent visibility and also add to the sporty look. A large underseat compartment is ample enough for shopping or books and the long, wide dual seat is plush and comfortable. A stainless finish cargo rack at the rear also provides handles for the passenger.
The instrument panel is easy to read and features an electronic fuel gauge, turn signal, oil indicators and high beam gauges. Reflectors at the front and rear improve visibility especially in city traffic.

Advantages
Excellent gas mileage. Reliability good. Motorcycle license not needed in most countries.
Disadvantages
Needs a long break in period for the engine. Cramped for taller riders.
